Features
Everything Anda Browser does, marked by platform. Where a feature comes from the Firefox engine, we say so.
Layout and gestures
The browser adapts to the device, then to you, and you put the bars where your hand reaches.
-
Move the bars by dragging Android
Hold the address bar or the tab strip and drag it up or down: it stays where you let go. The whole address bar is the handle, not just the field. If the other bar is already in that spot, they swap places. No settings menu needed; the Bar positions panel always shows where they are, and you can switch dragging off in Settings. On the desktop in the next version.
-
Mobile or Tablet layout Android
Mobile puts everything in one row with a tab switcher; Tablet adds a separate tab strip. Auto chooses by screen size, and you can override it. The address bar and the tab strip can each sit at the top or at the bottom, and the address bar can go above the tabs.
-
Gestures Android
Back and forward by swiping across the page, if your phone uses three-button navigation; with gesture navigation the system provides it. Holding Back or Forward opens the history list. Holding the Tabs icon offers a new tab, a new private tab or closing the tab. In the tab switcher you close a tab by swiping and reorder tabs by dragging. Pinching the page takes you to the tab switcher with a live shrink; you can switch this off in Settings.
-
Back, the way you expect Android
The system Back button steps through the tab's history, then to the start page, then sends the app to the background; it never jumps to another tab. A tab opened by a page closes on Back and takes you to the tab that opened it. After a link opened from another app, Back takes you straight back to that app.
-
Immersive mode Android
One switch, in Settings or on the shield panel: the system status bar disappears, and with gesture navigation the navigation bar too.
-
Hide the bars All platforms Desktop: next version
The browser's own bars fold away for reading; a small floating button brings them back, and on the desktop also moving the mouse to the edge of the screen.
-
Full or Mobile layout Windows · Linux
Full shows a tab strip; Mobile uses a single compact row. You choose whether the tabs or the address bar sit on top.
-
Mouse gestures and touch on the desktop Windows · Linux Desktop: next version
Back and forward by swiping from the edge of the screen, with a monochrome arrow; the Tabs quick menu on right-click or a long touch; reordering tabs with the mouse or by touch; pinching into the tab switcher. Mouse gestures have their own switch and are off by default.
-
Frameless window Windows · Linux
The browser can draw its own window frame, with a bookmarks toolbar you can show or hide and full screen when you want it.
-
Palettes and themes All platforms
Light, dark or system; one palette for the whole browser; on Android also a custom accent colour, a separate palette for private tabs and a comfortable or compact density. The icons are always monochrome.
-
Quick actions All platforms
Choose which actions sit in the address bar and in the menu, and reset them any time.
-
Tabs Android
A tab overview with previews and your own background picture, search among open tabs, recently closed tabs, close all at once, and a sidebar.
Start page and widgets
Your own page, built from your choices, offline too. You switch the widgets on and off and put them in order.
-
Start page items All platforms
In Settings you choose which widgets are shown and in what order; you set the order by dragging.
-
Shortcuts All platforms
Up to twenty of your own sites, in your order, rearranged by dragging. Wikipedia and YouTube are there to begin with; you add the rest by address or from your bookmarks.
-
Your own icon on a shortcut All platforms Desktop: next version
A long press lets you change the icon: 30 built-in monochrome symbols, a picture of your own, or on Android any icon from the icon packs installed on your phone (launcher icon packs from Google Play). You can always go back to the site's own icon.
-
Frequently visited All platforms Desktop: next version
The sites you actually visit most, from your history on this device: in three rows of chips you can scroll sideways, up to 36. A long press opens one in a new tab or a private tab, or removes it from the list.
-
Bookmarks All platforms Desktop: next version
A folder row with All and your folders, and below it the folder's bookmarks as chips; above 36, one tap opens the full list. A long press offers a new tab, a new private tab, moving to a folder or deleting.
-
Notes All platforms Desktop: next version
Select text on any page or in reader view and save it as a note; the title and a link to the source are added for you. Notes have their own page: list, search, a simple editor, pinning and deleting. Export to JSON and HTML, import from JSON, and the backup includes them. The start page shows the latest three. In private tabs they are read-only.
-
Partner widgets Android
Off by default, with one main switch that tells you beforehand what the provider sees: your IP address, the content language and the time of the request, nothing else. If you switch it on: Wikipedia's featured article of the day in your language, and the Metropolitan Museum's object of the day, with its licence line. When it is off, or in a private tab, not a single request goes out. On the desktop later.
-
Wallpaper Android
The background of the start page and the tab switcher: a built-in picture for light and dark mode, or a photo of your own; the browser's bars are translucent above it.
-
Startup and new tabs Android
Decide what opens at startup, up to ten start pages, and what a new tab shows.
-
Works offline All platforms
The start page itself needs no connection; searches go to the engine you selected.
Anda Security
One place for your protections: the lock, private tabs, ad blocking, blocked sites and deletions. For a shared or a child's device, and reassuring on your own too.
-
Lock with a master password All platforms Desktop: next version
A master password of at least six characters. Whatever is under the lock can be relaxed or deleted only with the password; tightening is always allowed, without it.
-
Lock list: you decide what it protects All platforms Desktop: next version
A list of every action that can be protected: allowing private browsing, switching off private-tab protection, relaxing Safe Browsing, HTTPS-only mode and tracking protection, switching off the ad blocker and its exceptions, secure DNS, search engines and suggestions, unblocking blocked sites, site permissions, external links, JavaScript, switching on partner widgets, and deleting history, bookmarks, shortcuts, passwords and site data, export, import and reset. Every row shows its current state, and where the setting is looser, one tap tightens it, without the password.
-
Switching private browsing off Android
You switch it off in Settings, and the lock won't let it back on without the password. This way private tabs can be disabled entirely.
-
Deleting only with the password All platforms Desktop: next version
Under the lock, deleting history, bookmarks, shortcuts, passwords and site data by hand asks for the password, and the clear-on-quit setting can't be changed quietly either. The data stays yours; it just can't disappear without your knowing.
-
Unlock with the device lock Android
Optionally, the phone's own fingerprint, face or PIN can unlock too. Switching the lock off always needs the master password.
-
Recovery code All platforms Desktop: next version
Shown once when you set the password; it is the only way back if you forget it. Repeated wrong attempts have to wait, and a wrong password gives visible feedback.
-
Protect private tabs Android
A separate feature: when you come back to the app, the private tabs ask for the device's screen lock; normal tabs stay usable.
-
One zone, one colour All platforms Desktop: next version
Every page and dialog of Anda Security is deep turquoise, whatever the browser's theme: you always see that you are in the protected part.
Content filtering
-
Ad blocking All platforms
Built in and on by default, with no account and no list downloads: requests to known advertising and tracking hosts are never loaded, based on a list shipped inside the app. The page itself is never blocked; the list changes with app releases.
-
The shield panel All platforms
Tap the shield in the address bar for a panel that is the same on both platforms: how many requests were blocked on this page, a switch for the site, the state of tracking protection, a button to the Anda Security settings, and on Android immersive mode too. Under the lock, relaxing asks for the password, and the panel waits.
-
Exceptions per site All platforms
Switch the ad blocker off for one site when it breaks something. In private tabs the exception lasts only until the last private tab closes.
-
Blocked sites Android
Your own list of blocked websites: the browser stops before loading them. "Allow once" lets a site through for the current session only, and under the lock it doesn't even appear.
Reader view and read aloud
Articles without the clutter, and a voice when your eyes are tired. The same bar on both platforms.
-
AndaReader All platforms Desktop: next version
One tap extracts the article: text and pictures only. A single row of icons that follows the address bar: text size, theme (the browser's own, or light, sepia, dark or Night, a warm dark for evening reading), narrow or wide column, read aloud. Back to the page any time.
-
Read aloud All platforms Desktop: next version
The article is read out with the device's voice, highlighted sentence by sentence, and the page follows along. Previous and next sentence, pause, stop, speed from 0.8 to 2 times, and a choice of voice and language. If you scroll, following stops and jumps back when it plays on. Tap anywhere in the text and it continues from there. The panel can be hidden and reading goes on. The screen stays awake while it speaks.
-
Hours of reading Android
No length limit: a long article or a book chapter goes all the way through. Leaving the tab or sending the app to the background stops it; reading with the screen off comes later.
Search and weather
Search your way, and the weather for your place.
-
Search your way All platforms
Choose the search engine on the start page (DuckDuckGo, Google, Startpage, Brave, Bing), add your own, use !bang shortcuts, search within the current site, or ask the same question from a second engine.
-
An AI answer engine, if you want one All platforms
You can also send your question to an AI search engine: Perplexity, Bing Copilot Search, ChatGPT, Duck.ai or Google AI Mode. The question goes to the provider's own page only when you send it, in the address; until then there is no network call, and there is no built-in sidebar or account.
-
Voice search Android
The search microphone uses your phone's speech recognition; the browser does not record audio.
-
Weather for your place All platforms
Choose a town from a built-in list and the forecast appears on the start page, in your units. No location access is needed, and nothing is fetched until you choose a place. There is a weather page of its own too.
Your data, passwords and permissions
Everything stays on the device, and you can see and clear it.
-
Local, no account All platforms
Bookmarks, history, notes, settings and passwords live in the browser profile on your device. There is no account, no sync and no telemetry.
-
Passwords All platforms
The browser offers to save passwords and fills them in. On Android it has its own encrypted password store, and you can use the system password manager too; on the desktop the engine's saved passwords. Under the lock, deleting passwords asks for the password.
-
Clear data All platforms
Clear what you choose, when you choose; on Android also automatically every time you quit.
-
Site permissions All platforms
Camera, microphone, location, notifications and the rest, per site, with a list of all sites you have decided about.
-
Downloads Android
You choose the download folder; downloads keep going in the background with a notification, and a bar shows their progress. Private downloads are listed only while the private session lasts, though the files stay.
-
Export, import, reset Android
Save your settings, shortcuts and notes to a file, bring them back on a new phone, or start fresh. Under the lock, all three ask for the password.
Privacy and security settings
The Firefox engine's protections, with Anda's defaults; the privacy page explains the few connections the browser makes.
-
Private tabs and windows All platforms
No history, no search terms and no session snapshot are kept; cookies from private tabs go when the last one closes. On the start page in private mode there is no frequently-visited list, no icon download, and the partner widgets request nothing either.
-
Tracking protection and cookies All platforms
Enhanced tracking protection with per-site exceptions, cookie settings, automatic clearing of tracker data, and the Global Privacy Control signal.
-
HTTPS-only mode All platforms
Insist on encrypted connections, and decide what happens when a site has none.
-
Secure DNS All platforms
DNS over HTTPS is off by default; turn it on with the provider you pick, and keep exceptions for your own network.
-
Safe Browsing and certificates All platforms
Warnings about dangerous sites, as in Firefox; on Android you can switch Safe Browsing off, under the lock only with the password. Certificate errors are handled strictly.
-
JavaScript, autoplay, links in apps Android
Switch JavaScript off, stop media from playing by itself, and decide whether links may open other apps.
Languages and translation
Pages in any language, translated on your device.
-
Translate pages All platforms
The Firefox engine translates on the device; the language models are downloaded when you first use them.
-
Your rules Android
Decide whether translation is offered at all, which sites are never translated, and what happens per language. Downloaded models can be removed.
-
Interface languages All platforms
The browser speaks Hungarian, English and German, with the same set of languages on both platforms. You can set which languages websites should prefer.
Tools
The small things you reach for every day.
-
Picture-in-picture Android
A video keeps playing in a small window while you do something else on your phone.
-
QR codes All platforms
Scan a QR code to open a page, or show the current page as a QR code to pass it to another device.
-
Share, print, save as PDF All platforms
Share a page, copy its link, print it or save it as a PDF; on Windows also through the system share sheet. The browser opens PDFs itself.
-
Find in page, desktop and mobile view All platforms
Search inside a page; request the desktop version of a site on Android, or the mobile version on the desktop.
-
Bookmarks and history All platforms
Their own pages inside the browser, with folders on both platforms.
-
Internal pages in one place All platforms
Settings, tabs, bookmarks, history, downloads, notes and weather are internal pages of the browser; on Android the about:about page lists them all.
-
Keyboard shortcuts Windows · Linux
Anda's own shortcuts for settings, the frameless window and bringing the browser controls back, on top of the engine's usual ones.
Accessibility, updates and platforms
Readable for everyone, and honest about how it is kept up to date.
-
Text size and contrast All platforms
Larger text, following the system font size, zoom on every website; on the desktop an accessible high-contrast palette and the engine's font, zoom and contrast settings. Every touch target is at least 48 pixels, and screen readers read the start page chips in order of rank.
-
Updates, by hand All platforms
Anda Browser does not update itself and does not phone home to check. New versions are announced on this site; you install them over the old one, and your data stays.
-
Platforms All platforms
Android 8.0 or newer; Windows 64-bit, with an ARM64 version on the way; Linux on Wayland desktops, x86_64 and arm64, installed in your home folder without root. macOS and iOS: coming soon.
-
What the engine does not do here Windows · Linux
No Firefox account or sync, no studies, no suggestions from the network, no promotions, no push service, no default-browser nagging.
